Authorial control

'The fictional world as structured by the author is the world under control, in which even the loss of control is reduced to the level of a fiction directed and formed by the author.' I can see this; but it also seems to me to give authors too godlike a sense of control.  Reading a text may give the impression of something carefully controlled, but the trick of writing is the calculated surrender of control; the relaxation of the hold that convention and preconception and limitation have over one's imagination.
