James D. Watson (of DNA fame, and borderline-racism infame) once declared: 'there is only one science, physics: everything else is social work' [quoted in
Lifelines (1997) by Steven Rose]. There may be something in this: not in the sense of elevating the importance of physics, but on the contrary, as stressing the centrality of 'social work' -- the crossover between science and fiction for instance.
