I find Philip Larkin's
All What Jazz, mostly, an uninvolving read, not having any particular interest in Jazz. But I have to concede his review of the Beatles is something special: '
With The Beatles suggests that their jazz content is nil.' If that doesn't sum up the entire Beatles phenomenon, then I'm a Dutchman.
Dan Rebellato, the tweeter, put this in my head:
ReplyDelete'...Between the end of the Chatterley ban
And the Beatles’ first LP
Whose jazz content was nil ...'
